2012 Doomsday Movie
People are making a big deal out of the date December 21, 2012. This mania corresponds with the release of a new big budget Hollywood movie starring John
Cusack with the ominous date as its title. The subject of the movie is the Mayan Calendar and its reference to a doomsday event that is suppose to occur on or about the winter solstice December
21st 2012. I have always found it fascinating how movies foreshadow future events. Because of the movie and the hype accompanying it, I have been getting dozens of
emails asking questions about the Mayan Calendar and the 2012 Doomsday prediction. I have been a practicing Astrologer for over twenty years and the 2012 Doomsday matter has sparked more questions than any other event since
Y2K. This is why, I have taken a moment to give my opinion on the Mayan Calendar and December 21, 2012.
The Mayan People
The Mayan People dominated what is now
Guatemala and Southern Mexico from around 2000 B.C.E. until the arrival of the Spanish in the late
1400's A.D. The Mayan influence is seen and felt throughout the America's to this day. Mayan civilization reached its peak between 250 A.D. to around 950 A.D. The Mayan people had a tremendous understanding of time and space. The Mayan yearly calendar is more exact than the yearly calendar we use today in the West. The Mayans were able to accurately calculate solar and lunar eclipses, Sun spot cycles, cycles of Venus and other astronomical events thousands of years into the future. The Mayans also realized something that we take for granted in our linear driven
mind-set of today. The Mayans understood that Earthly and Solar systems function in a cyclic ways. In other words, the Mayans realized that what has happened in the past will happen in the future. The Mayan were then able to accurately predict the future by simply categorizing events based on regular cycles of inner and outer space.
The Doomsday Prediction
The Mayan doomsday prophecy that predicts an ending event on December 21, 2012. The Mayans had the ability to predict three very rare events that will come together on or around December
21st 2012.
The first event is a very rare Earth/Sun conjunction with the Super Black Hole that is at the center of our galaxy. This conjunction occurs only every 26,800 years and corresponds with the never-ending pattern of Earthly mass extinctions. In addition to this conjunction the Earth will complete a full wobble. We must remember the Earth spins on its axis like a top. It takes around 24,000 years for the Earth to complete a wobble. If the wobble and the conjunction were not enough, the Earth is also due for a pole shift. A pole shift occurs every 11,500 to 12,000 years. Pole shifts occur when the poles magnetism switches from north to south and vice versa.. When the pole shift occurs, the north and south axis will shift between 10 to 40 degrees. When pole shifts occurred in the past, many species went extinct. Scientist have found tons of fossil and geological evidence proving that pole shifts and mass extinctions have
occured on this planet over 15 times. Fossils of animals found under the tundra of Alaska have been found with undigested tropical plants in their stomach. This is evidence that the animal where suddenly moved from tropical climates and froze suddenly. The most famous scientist believing that large portions of the Earth suddenly shifted as a result of a pole shifts was Dr. Charles
Hapgood. The pole shift
phenomeon has
occured several times in the past and without a doubt will occur in the future. This is the message of the Mayan Calendar and of other ancients structures and texts including the Pyramids. The message is that the Earth experiences great changes and with those changes, life and species are lost and new ones evolve.
The Great Rift
Recently scientist discovered that in the center of our galaxy there resides a super black hole. We already knew of the presence of black holes, but recently scientists discovered super black holes. These super black holes are much larger than the ordinary run-of-the-mill black holes that pepper our universe. Scientists discovered that these super black holes are common features in the center of most observable galaxies.
The Mayans knew something was out there. They called the area where the super black hole resides the ‘Great Dark Rift.” Now for those of you who are not aware of what a black hole is or does, it is a place in space where the gravitational pull is so strong not even light can escape.
As I had already stated, on December
21st 2012 our Sun and Earth will transit directly in front of this great dark rift in the galaxy. The effect of this transit are unknown. This transit was important enough that the Mayans and Egyptians felt a need to communicate its importance to future generations. The Mayan calendar and the Egyptian Pyramids share the distinction of being big clocks. Both end on or around the Doomsday date. The two cultures also realized the importance of the cycles of the planet Venus. Venus rotates practically on its side at a 177 to 178 degree angle. Today the Earth's rotational axis is 23.45 degrees. That has not always been the case.
Earth Completes Its Wobble
The Mayan were able to calculate and understand cycles and patterns that are just becoming clear to modern scientists. Another example is the Earth's Wobble. Over one hundred years ago scientist realized that the Earth wobbles in space like a giant top. What causes the Earth to wobble was somewhat a mystery to modern scientist until very recently. The scientific findings correspond with the verbal histories of ancient people and with geological and fossil records from around the world. According to those source the Earth experiences cataclysmic destruction as result of the effects of electro-magnetic pole shifting as well as other factors on a routine basis. The Biblical, Babylonian, Chinese,
Meso-American and Africans have all made reference to a great flood that has been dated to have occurred around 12.000 years ago. At the same time we see the mass extinction of several large animal species as well as several fish, bird and plant life species. If the Mayans were correct, the doomsday date could possibly point to yet another cataclysmic event. According to an article in Science Daily on May 20, 2004
"To make the Earth wobble, large amounts of mass need to be moved from one place to another so that the Earth is “off balance,” according to NASA-funded researcher
Blewitt, who said the North Pole then adjusts to a new position to compensate. Large amounts of water are displaced seasonally when glaciers and ice sheets melt in spring, for example. The mass shifts back when they refreeze in winter.
That facts are everywhere the pole shift around every 12,000 years causing massive destruction to life on the planet."
Mass Extinctions
The Earth’s history is filled with mass extinctions. Mass extinctions are indeed a very normal occurrence on the this planet. We are currently in the midst of the largest single mass extinction since the event 64 million years ago that caused the dinosaur extinction. Since the beginning of the
20th Century human activities has caused the extinction of over 2 million species and the numbers keep growing every year. There have been several mass extinctions on Earth since life showed up. Each mass extinction has spawned a wave of new life. With the passing of one, comes the rise of others. When the dinosaurs were wiped away 64 millions years ago, that destruction paved the way for the small mammals that evolved into homo sapiens.
The Human Factor
It is vain to believe that human’s will always be around. Every moment is important for us to live to the fullest . As I stated early on, The Mayan people believed that life is cyclic. In order words, what has happened in the past will certainly occur in the future. In our contemporary mind-set, we believe we are the first do almost every thing. That kind of thinking is not only unwise, but vain and egocentric. 99.9% of all life that has lived on this planet is now extinct. All the Mayans are saying is that the
21st of December 2012 will usher in another cycle on the planet. Whatever occurs, I hope it spawns humbler homo sapiens or something even better.
